Joseph Stalin had worked beside Lenin after he was appointed to
serve on the first Central Committee of the Bolshevik Party. Sense then Stalin and Lenin had taken over Russia and founded the Soviet Union. In 1922 Stalin had become the secretary general of the Central Committee of the Communist Party. This job was an uprising position and he was able to take charge and gain a political base. After this, Stalin had gained much strength and power, but while Stalin was busy gaining power, Lenin was becoming weak and sicker than what he already was. Lenin died in 1924 and Stalin took over, becoming the new dictator of the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union was transformed from a poor communist society to an industrial and military up rise within a 5-year plan. Stalin ruled by force and terror. He believed that people needed to have a strict line to follow and didn't care that many of his people had died. After converting the Soviet land into a common ownership within the farmers many people were not happy with his leadership. Having people upset created enemies for Stalin and he had no second thoughts about what needed to be done; setting out he executed his enemies or sent them to labor camps. Stalin also helped give power to the secret police and he engaged in encouraging people to spy on each other. Stalin had tied a relationship with the United States, Britain, and Germany; where they all signing the Munich Pact. Shortly after the signing Hitler backed out on his word and invaded the USSR. |
